What They Say
The course is super value for money and a perfect complement to more general proofreading courses as it really brings to life the theory about where a proofreader is in the publishing process, giving you practical ways to work efficiently and usefully with typesetters and managing editors.
The quizzes after each module are excellent in consolidating your learning, and the resources, including a keyboard shortcuts cheat sheet and a proofreading checklist and glossary, are so helpful. The whole course is full of great tips and covered everything I could imagine I'd need as a proofreader marking up PDFs. The screencast format is a perfect match for the content and I appreciated the ability to take things at my own pace.

The course was very well structured and Denise was brilliant at explaining things in a clear and concise way. The course had a clear set of aims and the exercises perfectly achieved these learning goals. Denise was very approachable and knowledgeable.
The sessions were informative and the environment was positive and engaging. The breakout rooms especially helped as they allowed further discussion in small groups and allowed you to get to know other course participants better.

Denise was a really lovely tutor – patient and knowledgeable. She encouraged discussion and questions. I found the course content really interesting and it definitely met my expectations, with a lot of new information for me to consider and further my editorial expertise.

Denise's marketing course came along just when I needed it. As a new editor establishing my freelance business, I gained loads of valuable information which will help me shape my personal brand and marketing plan going forward. Key takeaways included how to manage social media, increase visibility, and find my ideal clients.
I feel much more confident now about what I need to do to not just 'sell' my services, but to put clients first and show that I can use my skills to solve their problems (exactly what Denise did for me!).

Marketing Your Freelance Editorial Business
This is a brilliant course that offers comprehensive marketing knowledge to freelance editors, especially new freelancers. It included everything it promised and in even greater detail than I had expected. The course was well organised and took us from starting out to finding and retaining clients and promoting our businesses.
Denise shares generously from her vast knowledge, and this made it particularly valuable. This wasn't a marketer teaching editors but an experienced editor, who uses marketing well and extensively in her own business, teaching other editors. That made a huge difference.
My focus is on non-publishing clients, and I have found that editorial training often only focuses on publishing clients. It was wonderful to attend a course that addresses non-publishing as well - and not as an afterthought.
